DANCING POLICE and POLITICS

When politics seep into technology, strange things happen. Way waaay, strange. Technology is now a medium so powerful that if it falls in the wrong hands, it could turn out good. (of course, it could also turn out bad).
Anyway, high ranking officials and dummies of the government are presently using the internet as their newest form of campaign. Barrack Obama used it too during the fight for the democrat rep. Obama used a Facebook profile during the campaign period to maximize the scope of his supporters. Sadly I was still an innocent idiot at that time. I haven’t signed up for Facebook and I really missed the hype of actually getting a comment from the now US president. Another sad fact is that mr. Obama is no longer updating his Facebook accouont. The president is not allowed to use a personal computer because files may be intercepted by anyone with access to the white house. (talk about tattletales and snitches)
Another Facebook user is Manny Villar. I am a fan of his and the OFW ideas Almost half of the RP population are families with at least one member working abroad. That gets Villar about thirty million supporters on the OFW scheme alone, thanks to the television and internet commercials. Villar also uses Twitter- my loved sharing site next to Google.
Mar Roxas lately announced that he will give way to Noynoy Aquino as the standard bearer of the Liberal Party. This means that senator Mar Roxas will no longer run for presidency at the 2010 elections. Mar Roxas paid for advertisements with Friendster and those advertisements really captured the heart. Now, he asks his supporters to support senator Noynoy Aquino as he does. (his endorsement is not enough. Advertise with me, sir)
Speaking of Friendster, there are a gazillion fake profiles of people, famous or not, as long as they have an impact. Search Panfilo Lacson and you get a stunning 80 results. Search Ping Lacson, you get 14 results. How are we supposed to know which is genuine or not? It’s impossible for one person, especially a very busy politician to handle 94 public profiles.

Political ads by the current administration are still soaring high. Ads that display the name of the chairman bigger than the name of the organization or government branch. Why show those only now that we are nearing the 2010 elections? We all know the answer to that.   There’s nothing new in Philippine politics except that schemes are more sophisticated, and media killings are no longer being reported.

BUT something cheered me up when I was already late for a 7:30a.m. class. I hailed a cab from home, and told the driver to step on it and I’ll double the fare if I don’t end up late. All was going fine (and fast) when we got to a super sticky traffic jam. Cars moved bumper to bumper and then three meters. Stop again. Three meters stop again. Until we reached the intersection where I saw this traffic controller dancing while doing the signals for “go"! Yes, he was dancing on the street. I hated what was happening but somehow the police guy cheered me up. I was smiling until after I alighted from the cab, plus—I didn’t have to pay double.

here's a post from http://www.filipinasoul.com/ with video! funny.
